How Did Military Experience Help with Starting a Business?
David Martin & Gabriel Uliburri, the founders of Real American Heroes Coffee Company talk with David Johnson about all of the various aspects of starting a business.
Their original plan was for a coffee shop, but that changed into becoming an e-commerce business that is now branching out into coffee shops in Phoenix.
The Air Force veterans were both in logistics which helped in many aspects of their business.
“Fortunately for us, we were both logistics when we joined the Air Force. Gabe crossed over to the fire department, but I stayed in logistics and I’ve learned a lot about the logistics business from transportation, shipping, receiving, the inventory you know all that good stuff. So it really helped me run and do our part,” said Dave Martin.

David Johnson: So did you know all the business aspects, I mean you never know, but did you know when you got into it you’ve got the product, the packaging, the distribution, the cost, the pricing, the financials. Was that kind of a learning experience as you went?
Gabe: Yes. That’s been a learning experience.
David J: Wow.
Gabe: And we actually originally wrote the business plan for a coffee shop. We never thought we would be e-commerce, so it has just been building on to this idea. And now we are mainly eCommerce, but we’re in 2 coffee shops.
David J: Oh Wow.
Gabe: So many people just back our idea, and with the whole social media and with Instagram and everything, the support from the military and other brands has been awesome.
